A Yahoo Exec’s Exit Interview
Scott Moore, the executive in charge of Yahoos News and Entertainment sites, is leaving the Web giant for a new opportunity. Whats next? He wont tell.

But he sprinkled hints in an interview with the Business Technology Blog. Some excerpts:
WSJ: Why did you leave Yahoo?
Moore: I came here to build out our media properties and I think weve been very successful. I am ready to do something different.
WSJ: What were the media groups brightest moments under your tenure?
Moore: The development of our online video shows, like Prime Time in No Time; acquiring Rivals.com, which put Yahoo Sports over ESPN.com and continuing growing our audience and engagement.
WSJ: What challenges will you successor face?
Moore: Obviously with the economic downturn, everyone is on pins and needles about where the online ad market is going to go. But I think that over the next two to five years the future for Internet media is incredibly bright. Many many media companies no matter what their primary areas of focus are going online for growth.
WSJ: Is there room for startups in the media business?
Moore: The media game is all about scale. For a media startup to have legs it needs to have scale in certain niches that are valuable. It is not about five guys in a garage banging out code. It takes more investment than that.
WSJ: What sort of opportunities do you see?
Moore: I dont want to tip my hand but I think there is a lot more that can be done in the vein of participatory media and citizen journalism. The world we all grew up is going to change. The economics of the business are changing.
